Oh my, the final wedding of 2017 could all have been a dream it was so magical. I arrived to Leopoldskron Palace on a crisp blue skied day after a fresh sprinkling of snow and my breath was quite literally taken away. I knew it was going to be a beautiful day but nothing quote prepared me! This rococo palace nestled beside an idylic lake with a vista of the majestic Untersberg mountain towering behind as the sun glinting between tree branches really was all too much to take in, absolutely overwhelming! I quickly snapped out of my mesmerised trance and jumped into action running across to the outside of the frozen lake to capture Leopoldskron in it’s morning beauty. Another reason it was dreamy to photograph at Schloss Leopoldskron was that some scenes from the Sound of Music were filmed on the grounds…I felt nostalgic looking back over the lake thinking about the von Trapp family and the many times I watched the movie as a child (and put on plays for family and friends;)!!)…
The day continued to be a dream on entering the palace as each way I turned I fell upon more beauty be it exquisite rococo stucco detailing, paintings, gold accents, chandeliers dripping with crystal drops and then I found Louise in an magnificent bridal suite perched on a chair next to an elegant sky high window having her hair. I can’t think of a more beautiful serene place for pre wedding preparation with views overlooking a glistening lake and snow capped mountains beyond. Louise chose an opulent deep red and navy colour palatte that worked a dream against the surroundings and added warmth and rich colour to the day. The Bridesmaids rocked maroon dresses from Silk Fred and the Bridesman looked dapper in blue (my first wedding with a Bridesman and hopefully not the last – so cool!) complementing the scheme beautifully.
Meanwhile Groom Tom greeted excited guests and finished preparing for his big day in the stunning surroundings. Tom sported a slick blue Hugo Boss suit and stylish knitted tie. I joined the lads for the final preparations and captured the ever fun pre wedding drinks. Everyone was super relaxed, simply having fun soaking up the spectacular setting on this fine day. Tom was especially relaxed, especially as he had a big surprise up his sleeve for Louise. Lola la la la la Lola…. Lola is their much adored gorgeous French Bulldog who Tom arranged to be driven (by a very kind friend!) over to Salzburg from the U.K. so she could bound down the aisle during the ceremony as an enormous surprise! And wowsers what an incredible surprise it was for Louise! I’m a huge animal lover myself so to capture this wonderful scene was such a pleasure!
Louise looked elegant in her La Sposa gown. Her flawless hair and make up was styled by Sophia Spatt. The light dreamily flooded through the altitudinousy tall windows of the pre wedding preparation room – I could have taken bridal portraits all day long but there was a wedding ceremony to capture so I scrambled down the secret staircase that led straight to the library from the bridal suite to where the ceremony took place. My entrance through what appeared to be a wall certainly surprised a few guests as I squeezed through an Alice in Wonderland style small door juggling my cameras!
The day flew by like a beautiful dream thanks to the incredible attention to detail, creative vision and super organisational skills of talented wedding planner Daniela Kainz, It was a joy to work with Daniela again and capture all the pretty details such as the table centres, signage, rugs, sweets and all sorts so well presented. It was then lovely to see Louise and Tom’s reactions too! My favourite being when they saw the incredible Ferrero Rocher cake by Victoria Balsa that was as well as being decorated with Ferrero Rocher actually a mouth-watering chocolate cake too behind all those chocolates!
There was another surprise to come, this time for the guests after the sparklers. Tom and Louise gazed up at the sky as fireworks turned the black of night to bright bursts of colour for all their surprised guests to enjoy and remember what was an already awesome day.
Louise and Tom, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful celebration with me, it was an honour to photograph and revisit magical Salzburg! ❤️
